Second last day and the organiser had arranged for a 160km day with over 1200m of climbing. He is a bastard but when quizzed about this he merely responded "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn". And with that he was gone with the wind !! Sorry folks - couldn't resist. It was a fairly testing day but the weather gods continued to smile down on us with light cloud cover, lighter winds and no rain. Just one more day please Ned - your San Diego drought dance is working for us. Just outside of Charlottesville we took time out to visit the home of Thomas Jefferson ("Monticello") and it was a visit well worth the extra couple of hours on a long day. An impressive house but an even more impressive person old Thomas. He listed his three best achievements as 1. Writing the Declaration of Independence 2. Wrote the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom and 3. Setup the University of Virginia. No mention of being a President of the USA!!
The rest of the day was spent covering the 160km before it got too late. The group was relieved as we rode into Ashland with Andrea trying to replicate Ned and bonking on her second last day. An 8 day made better by Thomas J. Only one day to go .... yeeha. (Don't tell the rest that it is another 160km ride)
