Sorry folks the internet service has been badly affected by the ash cloud around Vesuvius. Or else we were in a hollow last night. The ride from Buchanan was a leisurely 80km and so we decided some detours and sight seeing would be the order of the day. The first stop was at the Natural Bridge and as the name would suggest this is a bridge carved out by the river over millennia. It was purchased by Thomas Jefferson from the English in the early 1800's and he converted it into a national park. Mind you when he first saw it he carved his initials into the rock walls. Vandal. The bridge it still used today to carry a significant road here in Virginia. We then passed through Lexington - a beautiful small town with a ton of civil history and in particular about Stonewall Jackson. It also had some great cafes and restaurants and a brewery. What's not to like about it. The support crew headed for the brewery and that was the last we saw of them. On the way to Vesuvius we stopped for a swim in the local river - refreshing. The place we stayed at was an old converted mill with our host Kevin. Kevin turned out to be an excellent chef and knowledgeable person so what more could we ask for - the day gets a 10. Three days to go

I see the Tin Man is still drinking. I hope that his inability to ride has not caused a serious bad habit. HA. Ride looks beautiful. Almost there! Ned
