After the effort of the last few days the team was hoping for some relief. We left Abingdon "on the road to Damascus" but there were no conversions on this road. There should have been because Virginia delivered a near perfect day for us. Glorious ride through forests, alongside flowing stream, through farmland and all the time the hills seemed to be getting less steep and not as long. Topped off with near ideal weather conditions and this is as close to a ten as we will get.
At about the halfway point, with the sag wagon lost, the team rode into Sugar Grove and discovered a hot dog sizzle going on to raise funds for the local community. Great hotdogs topped with chilli, onions, relish and mustard washed down with a coke and finished with a doughnut. Who needs performance enhancing drugs when you have this as a lunch pick-me-up.
The new pit crew (Kerryn and Steve) able supported by the ex-Intelligence officer from the Geraldton cadets managed to get themselves lost despite having three maps and a signposted route for the ride. More practice needed you mob. They eventually caught up with the riders and Steve enjoyed a wind assisted ride into our destination. Great day assessed as a 10. Thank you Virginia, we love you.
