And yes, we have entered our last state on the route - Virginia. It' supposed to be "for lovers" but not tonight Josephine. Into the home straight and less than 1,000km to complete the journey. We could say it is sad but our legs, backs and buttocks probably wouldn't agree!! Tomorrow we tackle the Virginian Appalachians. Hopefully they will be a little more forgiving on tired legs...
After yesterdays monster day this was to be no different. Over 2,000m of vertical climbing all crammed into 110km, including the toughest two hills we have had to climb on the trip. The first (Pine Hill) was 3km long and did not drop below 10% for the entire length, peaking at 16%. The second (Black Hill) was 10km long and hovered between 6% and 10% for the entire length. Thank you Kentucky for your hospitality and farewell gift of hills. They were tough but fun. The day gets an 8 upgraded to a 9 because the dogs behaved themselves today.
